Tuesday, June 25 • 18:30 - 20:00  SES Lecture—Silicon Solar Panel Technology

Dr Tom Tiedje (UVic) will explain what is likely to happen in the future with respect to solar panel cost, production volume and efficiency. Future projections for efficiency are guided by thermodynamics and the optical and electronic properties of silicon; cost can be projected with a learning curve, similar to Moore’s law for integrated circuits.

Tom Tiedje

Tom Tiedje served as Dean of Engineering at the University of Victoria from 2008-2018. Prior to this, he had a joint appointment in the Faculties of Science and Applied Science at UBC. His research is in the area of semiconductor materials and devices. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, Royal Society of Canada, Canadian Academy of Engineering and the Canadian Society of Senior Engineers. He also sites on the Board of Directors at the Canadian Light Source.

Location

Engineering Building Saskatoon, SK S7N

Agenda

  • 18:30 - 19:00 Tea, Coffee, & Networking
